Rhein River Chasm: Rüdesheim & Bingen Travel GuideExplore the Rhein River Chasm, a UNESCO site with river cruises, historical towns like Rüdesheim, and the Germania monument. Enjoy scenic views, ferry rides, and gondolas.

    Discovering Rüdesheim am Rhein

The hills create the Rhein River Chasm, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a sanctuary for visitors, river-goers, and cyclists. Bingen uses river cruises lasting as much as 5 hours using watercrafts with roof seating. In the community of Rüdesheim am Rhein, one can find bars and dining establishments tucked into charming alleyways integrated in the Center Ages.

    Germania Monument: A Historical Landmark

This 125-foot-high sculpture, built between 1871 and 1883, commemorates the marriage of the German states right into one nation. The lady “Germania” stands atop a plinth adorned with a huge alleviation showing Kaiser Wilhelm I surrounded by soldiers. It lies on top of a hillside on the east bank of the river and forgets Rüdesheim am Rhein and Bingen, which is across the river.

Vehicle parking is rather restricted in Rüdesheim am Rhein, however, there is plenty of parking in Bingen am Rhein along the shore west of the ferryboat harbor. It is a good idea to take the ferry to Rüdesheim after car parking and walk up the hill after crossing the river. You can then take the Seilbahn (gondolas) up capital for a couple of Euros or endure the hill walking. In either case, the sights are amazing, especially when the grapevines are full with leaves.
